Chocolate Bernedoodles are proof that the classic combination of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle only gets better with a deep, rich coat color to match. That signature blend of loyalty and brains, plus the low-shedding coat Poodles are known for, comes through especially well in our tiny Bernedoodles, where a full-sized personality lives in a compact frame at Paw Tale Puppies.
The coat is the first thing people notice — a solid, velvety brown that can range from deep espresso to a lighter milk-chocolate tone, sometimes with subtle variation as puppies mature. But the coat is really just the introduction. Chocolate Bernedoodles tend to be steady, sociable, and quick to bond, the kind of dog that learns the household routine almost as fast as it learns new commands. Because every one of our parent dogs is OFA-tested with temperament in mind as much as health, that easygoing, people-oriented nature shows up reliably, litter after litter.
It’s that combination — a coat you can’t stop looking at, paired with a dog that’s genuinely easy to live with — that makes our tiny Chocolate Bernedoodles such a popular fit for growing families and first-time dog owners alike. They adapt well to apartments and houses, get along with kids and other pets, and bring a calm, grounded energy wherever they go. Rich in color, rich in personality — Chocolate Bernedoodles bring a warmth and steadiness that’s easy to fall for.
chocolate Bernedoodles come in petite sizes built for families and individuals who want all that rich color and warmth in a smaller package. At Paw Tale Puppies, we specialize in Toy and Micro Mini Bernedoodles, each carrying that same rich, coca coat and affectionate personality in a size made for close, everyday companionship.
Toy chocolate Bernedoodles are the smallest of the two, ideal for apartment living or anyone wanting a low-maintenance, easy-to-carry companion. Their tiny frame is a perfect match for the breed’s people-focused nature — these pups thrive on being close by, making them devoted lap dogs and constant little shadows.
Micro Mini Chocolate Bernedoodles offer just a touch more size while staying wonderfully compact, giving you a dog that’s sturdy enough for playtime yet still easy to manage in nearly any home. Their friendly, easygoing temperament makes them a favorite among families looking for a dog that’s as adaptable as it is affectionate.
No matter the size, every chocolate Bernedoodle carries the same striking coat, sharp intelligence, and loving personality that make them exceptional companions — just wrapped up in an irresistibly small package.
No two Merle Bernedoodles look quite the same. Their coats feature beautiful marbling, patches, and variations of color that can create truly one-of-a-kind markings. While we love the uniqueness of merle, health always comes first in our breeding program—we never breed two merle dogs together, avoiding the increased health risks associated with double merle puppies.
The Black Tri is the classic Bernedoodle look, drawing its beautiful black, white, and rust coloring from the traditional markings of the Bernese Mountain Dog. It’s a timeless coat that celebrates the breed’s heritage and gives our puppies that unmistakable Bernedoodle appearance families have loved from the beginning.
There’s something especially elegant about a Red Tuxedo Bernedoodle. Their rich red coloring paired with crisp white markings creates a bright, polished look reminiscent of a perfectly tailored tuxedo. Add in the playful, joyful personality of a Bernedoodle, and you get a puppy whose appearance is every bit as cheerful and charming as the dog underneath it.
There’s something irresistibly cozy about a Chocolate Bernedoodle. Their deep, warm brown coat has a rich, velvety quality that catches the light like a fresh cup of cocoa, giving them a look that’s as comforting as it is striking. Pair that with the goofy, affectionate nature Bernedoodles are known for, and you get a puppy whose warmth isn’t just in the coat — it’s in the whole package.
Our Toy Bernedoodles are produced through carefully selected pairings of smaller parents, with each generation helping us refine their compact size. Because genetics are unique, no two pairings produce exactly the same result, but our Toy Bernedoodles are generally expected to mature between 10–20 pounds.
Micro Bernedoodles fall into the sweet spot between our smallest Toys and larger Mini Bernedoodles. Their mature size is influenced by the size and genetics of both parents, with our pairings selected to consistently produce that smaller Bernedoodle build. Most of our Micros are expected to mature between 20–30 pounds.
Mini Bernedoodles typically mature between 30–45 pounds, with their final size depending on the genetics and size of their parents. While Minis are part of the Bernedoodle size spectrum, our program specializes primarily in Toy, Micro, and even smaller Munchkin Bernedoodles, so Mini litters are less common for us.
Chocolate coloring comes from a recessive gene, meaning both parents have to carry it for a puppy to be born with that deep brown coat. It’s not a coat type or pattern — it’s a true color variation, and it shows up across all our Bernedoodle sizes.
Some lightening or “fading” is common as chocolate puppies mature — a deep espresso coat can soften to a lighter milk-chocolate shade over the first year or two. Every puppy is a little different, but the rich brown base tone stays consistent.
Because chocolate is a recessive trait, it only shows up when a puppy inherits the gene from both parents — so it’s less common than colors that only need one copy. That’s part of why we take genetic testing so seriously in our breeding program.
Chocolate coloring can appear across our full size range — Toy, Micro, and Mini — so you can find that rich brown coat in whichever size fits your home best.
We rely on genetic testing, not guesswork. Testing our adult dogs tells us exactly which ones carry the chocolate gene, even if they don’t show the color themselves. That lets us plan pairings intentionally and give potential puppy parents a much clearer picture of what a litter is likely to produce.
Yes — coat color is purely cosmetic and has no bearing on personality. Chocolate Bernedoodles are just as affectionate, smart, and easygoing as any other color in our program.
